It's coming again and it is going to be FAB! Carrie will be joining us in Durango CO for our annual Women's Tango Weekend. Below is an outline of our schedule for August 9-12. To register, make sure to click over to our registration page and secure your spot. There is room for 20 participants TOTAL.
This weekend will focus on strengthening and pampering us as women in the dance of Argentine Tango. We will dance both roles, the men's and women’s role and learn the structure of the dance as a moving relationship between two people in space and time. This is a chance to pay special attention your dance with clear, precise, elegant understanding.
Elegant Sumptuous Posture and Embrace:
Be ease-fully upright by laying the groundwork for your tango dancing body. Floor exercises that offer insight to the tango movability of your perfect spiraling spine and hugging arms.
Precise sensual footwork:
Our relationship to the floor feeds our partner as well as our tango posture and ease of movement. Drill each part of your leg extension, walk, cross, ochos and add some embellishments.
Fundamentals and Beyond:
Learn the man and woman’s role of five basic moves for all dancers from advanced to beginner. Let’s do this!!
Core of the Legs:
Secrets from your core to creating balance on a strong standing leg and a lose free leg. Exercises to warm up the legs and hips and understand the tango doings of the hips-to-the-core.
Turning the Inside out:
Creating successful inviting pivots, boleos and giro’s.
Turns big and small
Who’s going around who? The mechanics of the man’s and woman’s role in the molinete.
This class will summarize our lessons over the weekend and go over what to practice together and on your own.
On July 27th, many tangueras will be arriving in the mountains of Silverton CO to enjoy a weekend of ladies embellishment work at Eureka Lodge. Nestled away in the mountains, new and novice dancers will focus on female confidence in the dance and our ability to stand strong and move gracefully. This retreat is going to like no other. I simply cannot wait!
A beautiful component of the weekend is that we will all be dancing with each other and learning basic LEADER techniques so that we feel good about asking our lady friends to dance and do it confidently. By learning both roles of Tango we can appreciate all of it's movements and the form associated with dancing well.
This retreat includes 7 classes, all food, lodging and a wonderful experience with other tangueras loving the dance! There are a few registrations available as we had a a couple of ladies need to cancel due to family issues, but we can promise a beautiful heartfelt weekend with some lovely surprises. So, if this retreat is for you, please do register by June 30th as the registration will close so that final catering and lodging can be confirmed.
We do hope you'll join us. If you have any questions please email me, or call 970-759-8404. To register for the retreat, please notice we have two options: a shared room or a single room. Choose what suits you best and we look forward to seeing you soon!
“Trust your feeling. If you want to guess go ahead, but your connection will never take you the wrong way”.
~A quote from today’s lesson with Lorena Ermocida
Here is a funny story. A tango story.
The other day I was taking a shower, bubbles and such and washing my feet and all of the sudden I realized that all of the soap made my foot incredibly slippery in the tub. I quickly stood strong on my standing leg and made sure to rinse off the bubbles from my free leg and my foot prior to putting it down. Now, why does this mean I am a Tanguera? Well, the fact of the matter is, if I were to be lazy and not be present with my foot, it’s very possible that I could have slipped in the shower. And that my friends, would be very sad. I didn’t come to Buenos Aires to spend a month on the couch. No ma’am . I am here to dance. So with that said, lets be honest and say I have a little OCD now while taking the shower and also.. I will admit I did take my cell in to the shower but hey I am a photographer and wanted to make a point!
Another point to make is this…
This year I am a different dancer, a different woman and different person inside and out. This past week has been monumental for me. Something actually clicked … its all working. The education that I have received from my Tango teachers is finally understood. The work and practice and efforts to travel to become the dancer I desire, is all coming together. Not a quick process by any means, a true and life long process for sure. Something that stands out for me in this journey is the ability to be kind. While we may not appreciate the other persons lead or the followers exact technique, we are still ALL HUMAN. We are still on our own journey with this dance and we are still in this together. I think back to some of the fabulous heart centered partners that I have been given the amazing opportunity to share an embrace with, this post goes to you fellas/gals: Ljuba, Mike & Carrie, Luis & Daniela, Hilario, Eduardo, Hans, Andre, Dmitry, Bruce, Joni, Chris, Mark, Patrick, Jorge, Scott, Roberto, Eduardo#2, Jason and Harold.. and to the many fabulous people from across the world that I cannot remember your names, thank you. Your patience with me and your ability to see the diamond in the rough has made my dance better and better each year. Because of your patience and the love I have for myself, I can now listen and accept your invitations and propositions and choose how that fits in to my dance. You probably never knew that giving this lady a chance on the dance floor would actually allow for the opportunity for me to get to know the real me and how I not only embrace in Tango, but how I embrace the world around me.
