Introducing Carrie Hortense-Field

I want to give a huge welcome and a big squeeze to our fearless Instructor for our Tango Contradiction Retreat,  Carrie Hortense-Field.  I am so grateful to have her as a major part of this retreat for women and once you meet her you will understand completely why she is the perfect educator for us! In the mean time, I wanted to share a short bio of her education, ability and love of Tango. Help me welcome her!!

Carrie attended the Dance department at California Institute of the Arts but chose to finish her BA in Dance/Arts and Social Change from New College of California. By the time she attended college she had already toured nationally with theater and dance companies and after college she spent some time performing and touring as modern dancer.

She has been teaching Pilates, Yoga and Gyrotonics since 1992 and holds certifications in all three practices. In 2002 she relocated to Taos, New Mexico and opened Taos Pilates Studio and was introduced to dancing Argentine Tango in 2005 and has committed to learning and dancing with a love.

Her commitment includes four trips to Buenos Aires and continued study and practice with her partner Mike Malixi. They have taught Tango in Taos, New Mexico since 2009. Mike and Carrie have taught together national tango festivals in the west and have been featured guest performers at Gustavo and Giselle Naveira’s Boulder Tango Festival.

In 2012 she created Tango Inform which is a collection of exercises designed to specifically improve a tango dancers technique, ease and grace. It is conditioning for the tango dancers body and has been a featured class at Denver Tango Festival, San Diego Tango Festival, Tucson Tango Festival and Albuquerque Tango Festival.

Carrie is excited to be a featured instructor of Tango Contradiction and share secrets of flourishing as a woman in tango.

And a word about Tango Inform, of which we will have the opportunity to participate with a warm cup of coffee each morning at the retreat!

"I found ALL the exercises well paced and completely applicable to our dance movements. I LOVE, LOVE that you made sure that each exercise is also followed by a clear application to our tango movement. This is truly helpful for us, it makes us connect the dots so to speak, from our floor work to our dance bodies." ~Christina Ladas, The Organic Tango School

we love you Carrie!

Where to get your favorite shoes?

For many tangueras, a comfortable shoe is key, and then there are ladies that really want to look stunning and will torture their tootsies out on the dance floor.  I don't know about you but there are some great products out there for all.  I plan to post a few vendors at a time for you to do some research about what type of shoe and style suits you best.  We all deserve HAPPY feet!

The care that goes in to your shopping experience at Raquel Shoes in Buenos Aires is second to none.  Make sure you ring the doorbell at this boutique.  Many may think they are closed because the door is locked but truth be told, they are protecting their precious inventory!  I visited this shop last spring and the care that the sales associate provided was absolutely magnificent. I was able to find what type of shoe fit my foot the best and from there I tried on everything in the store. I ended up purchasing a pair already made, and then ordered a custom shoe that is like no other. At least that is what I imagine :-)  100% custom made shoes out of the finest leather.  Give them a look over and order away, you cannot go wrong with this boutique. http://www.raquelshoes.com.ar

My shoe style tends to be a more vintage style. i was thrilled to see a shoe similar to these in the store and then the sales associate helped me build and style my own shoe.  I love how they turned out. Fashioned after the "street dancers" for me, they are perfect.
